Good News

Spring is coming early to the United States. March 20, 2022, at 11:33 A.M. EDT, will officially mark the start of the Spring season. This means the sun will cross the equator line heading North. Are you excited about the increasing daylight hours and warming temperatures?

Bad News

The Pandemic is still not over. Though many people are triple vaccinated, some still question the vaccine. Well, that’s the world we live in. Therefore, the city’s most anticipated spring festival, the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival in NYC, is canceled. Nonetheless, let’s talk about the festival in the following paragraphs.

First.

When do cherry blossoms bloom in NYC?

Cherry blossoms bloom in NYC based on each year’s weather, but they usually begin in earnest by late March.

Five Best places to see cherry blossoms in New York

1.) Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry blossoms in NYC offer New Yorkers a brief but gorgeous pop of beauty each year. The pink blooms are so magnificent at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden that it saddens me to inform my reader that the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival will not occur this year.

I have so many beautiful memories from the festival each year. In 2019, I took my parents to the spring festival. It was so much fun to experience some beautiful elements of the Japanese culture firsthand.

Simple mind exercise

Look at the picture above. Imagine standing under the umbrella of never-ending pink blossoms. Now close your eyes. What’s the first image comes to your mind? Study shows that being out in nature or after seeing pictures of nature can alter our mood, makes us feel happy and cheerful, and improves our nervous systems, endocrine, and immune response.

2.) Central Park, New York

When do the cherry blossoms bloom in NYC Central Park?

CentralPark.com says the park’s trees bloom from April to May. Follow the link for a detailed map and information on the blooms. Best perk — it’s free.

My favorite spot in the park is the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir (east and west sides). It is a sight to behold as the light pink, almost white, slightly fragrant Yoshino Cherry Trees welcome me during my morning runs in the park. Another favorite is Great Lawn, where you can sit for hours under the blossoms — an excellent spot for picnics.

3.) Riverside Park

As you see in the first picture (start of the article), how glad I’m biking at Riverside Park. I’m an athlete, and biking by the Hudson River is my favorite. And to do so in the company of the four-mile cherry three lines by the river is such a fantastic experience each year.

Did you know?

Did you know this park has its Cherry Walk? The trees on the four-mile path along the Hudson River were gifted from the Committee of Japanese Residents of New York decades ago, and you can spot them between 100th and 125th streets.

4. Flushing Meadows-Corona Park | Queens, NY

Flushing Meadows-Corona Park has a gorgeous spray of blooms that encircle the former World’s Fair site, including the Astro View Towers, the Unisphere, and the Queens Museum and Queens Theatre.

I’m planning to visit Corona Park this spring. This would be my first visit to the park. I love exploring the neighborhoods in New York City. Each has a different vibe, and I can’t wait to do this beautiful walk with the cherry blossoms.

5.) Roosevelt Island

Imagine yourself sitting on this bench under the pink cherry blossoms. How do you feel? Let me guess. Happy, relaxed, joyful. May be thinking- there is so much to be grateful for. Such are the joys of visiting different neighborhoods in New York City.

I love taking the red tram that glides above the East River, Roosevelt. Probably the only public transport I enjoy taking. This narrow piece of land in the middle of the East River is a great picnic spot, crawling with beautiful cherry blossoms, giving a perfect frame for photos of the Manhattan skyline.

Final Thoughts

Do you feel At one with nature like I do? I’m so eager to take my daughter, she turns 2 in April, to experience the stunningly gorgeous Cherry blossoms. As a mom, I must teach my daughter the love for nature. It gives me so much joy, and I see how she already appreciates going to the park. Most importantly, it’s a gift that’ll be with her through this life journey, good and bad days, celebrations, and remembrance.

Happy Spring! Good News: Spring is Coming Early to the United States.
