Hello readers, what is self-love? How does finding greater self-love help inspire your life everyday? I promise that you will see true beauty, feel true love, and look at yourself with kindness, compassion, and empathy by the time you finish reading the article. Furthermore, the article will provide you with answers to two key questions:

  • How will greater self-love inspire your life?
  • How to cultivate more of it?

Let’s begin.

The power of human connection

One of the first and most fundamental needs we have as humans is a connection through love, a bond. Our strongest love bond is with our mother right at birth. It’s the foundation of our relations throughout life. But sometimes, this strong, loving mother-daughter bond can leave you feeling unappreciated, unwanted, and unloved. As a result, you suffer low self-esteem and lack of self-worth as an adult.

My mother didn’t know how to deal with a dyslexic child. She chose ignorance and distance as a solution to my problem. As a consequence, I lacked a sense of self-worth throughout my life. I underestimated my talents until recent years.

If you like me, choose loving yourself and self-compassion to overcome childhood traumas, then keep reading as the following paragraphs will give an insight into

  • What self-love truly means?
  • How to practice or cultivate self-love and self-compassion in our everyday life.

Self-love is true magnanimous love.

In ‘How to Love Yourself to the Core,’ Jen Oliver says, ‘ Magnanimous love is more profound than unconditional love. It goes to the depths that include compassion and kindness.

  • Fact. Negative emotions cause chaos to our nervous system, while positive emotions align with our nervous system.
  • We make better choices with our life and health when we come from a positive emotional space.
  • We feel it right in our hearts.

Research shows we have, on average, 70,000 thoughts per day. And 98% of those thoughts are repeats from yesterday. Guess what? 80% of those thoughts are negative towards ourselves or someone else.

How does that negativity make you feel?

Worse with each passing day. Negative experiences shut us down little by little, eventually closing us down completely. Unknowingly, we lock ourselves in a dark place. That dark place in our mind, our thoughts. Discouraging us from loving ourselves truly and unconditionally.

Final.

How to practice or cultivate self-love and self-compassion in our everyday life?

  • Gratitude:

Did you know?

Positive emotions strengthen the integrity of our hearts and our arteries. My childhood experiences shaped me into the beautiful person I am today.

  • I feel gratitude for it has shaped me into a mother who is attentive to my child’s needs.
  • I feel gratitude for knowing and understanding how important my child’s mental and emotional well-being is.
  • These are my two most significant life lessons.
  • Interestingly, after my pregnancy and postpartum, I understood the depth of self-love.
  • I realized that if I can’t truly and deeply and unconditionally love myself. I will miss out on being there for my daughter. Care for her in a way I want, to be her best friend for life.

“When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out, and the tide of love rushes in.” — Kristin Armstrong.

Cultivating an “Attitude of Gratitude”

Cultivating an attitude of gratitude has been a real game-changer for me. As a mother, time is always a constraint. Therefore, I wanted to follow an exercise routine that is easy, effective, and less time-consuming.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Find a journal or use your phone (there are many apps available, too!)
  2. Keep your journal in a convenient place that you won’t forget to utilize it — for me, it’s on top of my nightstand next to my bed.
  3. Reflect and write three things you are grateful for everyday.
  4. I remember that doing this everyday felt arduous, so I began writing in my journal once per week. It felt easy. After that, I gradually turned it into a daily activity. It’s cathartic and fulfilling.
  5. Some examples of what I write in my journal are —
  • Grateful for another day of good health
  • Grateful for cooking a delicious meal for my family
  • Grateful for going on a long walk in nature.

I guarantee that after you start a daily gratitude practice, you will realize how many things in your life you have to be grateful for, even during challenging times.

Conclusion

In my closing argument, I ask my readers when will it be that we stop justifying ourselves, people-pleasing, and looking outside ourselves for validation about our self-worth? The answer is now at this very moment.

After reading the article, I hope you realize that your self-worth comes from within. Use gratitude to lean in and connect with yourself at a deeper subconscious level. I implore you to feel the depth of worth and love for yourself. Chose to love yourself first. And see how the magic of positivity unfolds in your life.

Promise me that the next time you look at the mirror, you only see true beauty, feel true love, and look at yourself with kindness, compassion, and empathy.
